Lactation Home Care

The last thing I wanted to do … was leave the house!

What was the most valuable thing you learned during your lactation consultation?
I think learning about the silverette cups is one of the main things my lactation consultant informed me about, that I believe truly helped me continue on with breastfeeding.
What did you like best about your lactation consultation?
That she came to my home! The last thing I wanted to do with a 2-3 week old was leave the house! Also, that she was very understanding and friendly towards my overly-friendly (and starved for attention) yellow labrador.
What challenges or difficulties did you and your baby have with breastfeeding? How did the lactation consultant help you to achieve your breastfeeding goals?
My two biggest challenges were pain with breastfeeding, and low milk supply. My lactation consultant was able to tell me exactly how much milk my baby was getting from each breast, and suggested two popular supplements to try taking to increase milk supply. I tried one that she suggested, and believe it did help a little. My next biggest challenge was pain, despite my baby’s good latch. While there was no immediate solution to my pain, my lactation consultant suggested a few products to apply to help with healing, as well as showed me a different way to help the baby get an even deeper latch. I believe all of those suggestions she gave me were enough help to allow me to continue on and eventually nursing became pain-free and super easy.
