My baby was, for the most part, unable to latch onto my breast and when he did, he would not suck. He has lost 12% of his birth weight in the first week of life. At the hospital, the specialists and nurses tried to force him onto my breast which was extremely exhausting and frustrating and did not work. Christy evaluated my baby when he was 7 days old and realized he did not have the ability to nurse, and that trying to force him to was not going to be successful. She came up with a plan that included SNS with a nipple shield, as well as paced bottle feeds, that resulted in successful breastfeeding without any equipment in a month’s time.
The most valuable thing I learned was how to help my baby learn how to breastfeed in a way that was emotionally and physically healthy for me and enabled my baby to grow very well throughout the process.
Christy has everything it takes to be an exceptional lactation specialist. She is extremely knowledgeable and experienced, compassionate, and is able to really listen. She was able to accurately evaluate my baby and pinpoint why he was having trouble nursing. I also loved her gentleness with my baby.
